Hi all, I have been lurking on here for a week or so now reading up on all the information, searching and getting my knowledge up to scratch. I have had almost every performance Jap car out there now and this was one of the last ones for me to own. I had a Blobeye WRX but needed something more family orientated so opted for the MPS, unfortunately the car I have got seems to have a couple of gremlins which I would like to sort before in goes in for a remap in a few weeks. I have done a lot of googling and looking on youtube and pretty sure I have the dreaded VVT rattle but only the beginnings of it, I have a 1 second rattle on start up and the engine sounds 'tappy' when on idle. I have done a full oil change and still there so guessing its VVT so already started saving and will change it next month. The other issue I have is a very slight misfire between 2k and 3k revs on part throttle it is only very slight so changed the plugs but still there so I am guessing it is coil packs could anyone advise if they can be cleaned or if it is a regular fault and I just need to find the offending pack and change it? Beyond that the car is great I am looking at changing the filter for a full cold air intake and looking through the different options. It already has a forge recirc valve on it which looks nice but would prefer a recirc and vent to air valve at some point and it desperately needs an exhaust to release some noise from the engine but I cant find anything below the £600 mark and there is very little choice out there :-( Hopefully I will keep this car a bit longer than I have my others but my urge to own another RX8 is growing by the day as I miss mine so much. Here are some pics hope to get to a meet at some point and learn more about these great cars And one of my old RX just before I sold her ;-(

first of all welcome. did the recirc valve come with the car and has it been modded in the past?
post a video up of the engine start up and rattle as these engine can be noisy anyway.
as for mapping what are you planning? there are two good options, cobb and versatune. and then go to justin for a remap. read up on here of the horror story of poeple going bbr and total mps.
check your spark plug gaps are correct.
how far do you plan on going with it? if i was you i would do some more reading up with regards to tuning, suppliers, mechanics etc.

Welcome,
These turbo cars have lots of plumbing. I would check it all for tightness and condition. The oem jubilee clips aren`t very good. I would also give the MAF a very careful clean. Check out the thread on this.
As well as the gap on the plugs, which plugs are they. The MPS is a fussy mistress in that department.

Thanks for the initial info guys i got ngk iridium 7 plugs will check the gaps on them but always found ngk to be pretty spot on.
The recirc was on it when i got it afaik thats all its ever had done to it.
I have cleaned the maf will check all the pipes and get a video of the start up on it and while running.
I noticed these have a lot of plumbing on so will check all that too.
As for end goals and tuning i have a friend who is a local tuner and wanta to use my car as a test bed for the future so hes currently looking at software for it i would like a bit more power and a nicer sound and will do some work on the handling. Aiming for 300-320 ish bhp

If you want him to tune you car, you should buy a cobb or versatuner licence. If hes good he should understand what the tables do and be able to read logs and make a basic map. However if the tuner has no luck you can get an established mps tuner to make you a proper map. If you dont go for cobb or versa you could run into problems if things dont work out. My oppinion is that youll save ALOT of time and money if you just get an established mps tuner to sort you out with a map in the first place. Alot of companies respected for mapping renaults, fords, vaxhauls and even other mazdas have tryed and failed catastrophically with the mps engine. P.s enjoy the new motor

Justin Heath is THE man to go to (DJJUT on here) , he will tune you with cobb or versa via emails, but, if your mate wants to tune you and willing to listen, Justin is always willing to help him with the process, if you and your mate listen to him and follow his advice etc he's very patient with people wanting to learn.
