Evening all, test driving a Mazda 3 mps Mk1 mps in Black on Saturday. I've had one before so know quite a bit about them. Couple of things I noticed when I had a quick look at it, bare in mind the cars done 39k on an '07 The chrome trim around the gear stick, the bit at the top is scratched, is this normal? Is that bit easy to replace or should I just go all out and get a James Baron racing one? The other thing was the leather was a bit marked on he drivers seat, like there was a 50p sized grey bit instead of it being usual black leather, is that normal? Can it be repaired? Many thanks

Scratched gear stick is probably finger ring damage.

Thanks for your help, looking at the gear stick surround it does look like a ring would scratch it easily. Thanks for confirming about the leather, I'll get a scuff repair kit and have a go at it myself

The part on the gear stick you talk about is just plastic, so with a ring is easily scratched, it comes off very easily, pop off the gear stuck numbers an there's a small posidrive screw holding it in. Then you can polish it up and spray it if you want

I've looked into a bit more 39k on an '07 as I said further up. Mileage sounds about right. There's only a part service history but I know the guy selling it serviced it last July. Should that be a concern, is it worth ringing my local dealer and asking for the DSR?

If your worried about wether its been serviced or not get all the bits yourself for a full service and get it done, alot of us service our cars way before its due

I've checked the DSR with my local dealer this morning, they were very helpful. Gave me the mileage at each service, even offered me the phone number of the last garage it was done at, it's a mazda dealer in Leicester though, so I'm happy enough with that.

We'll . . . . Picked it up last night, Mk1 in Black '07 plate with 38k on it. Drives we'll, can't believe I sold my first one. Anyway, gave it a quick wash today to have a proper look at the condition it's in good nick apart from the wheels. All are corroding so will need a refurb, paints good apart from swirl marks and only a scratch on the spoiler. No real plans at the moment, might black the badges out and considering going darker with the wheels, decisions, decisions . . .

Which dealer was it? This issue comes up quite a lot so it would be good to know of a helpful one. In my experience, dealerships can be very different both in the service they provide and the prices they charge.

It was a private sale. I'll give a good going over with some Iron X next week. There's a place literally round the corner from mine, I know they'll do all 4 for £250.
