Thought I should say Hi as I have been searching the forum scratching my head for days and now im getting a headache. Names Drew, 30 something  from Accrington. After pondering what to get as my next "fun" car the Mazda MPS seems to tick them boxes. Bit of history, Owned the old type Na sports cars, XR3i, GTI Mk2, Astra GTE, Vectra GSI in the past until the past 5 years when I have been pottering around in my old mans Passat TDI Estate, any way I have decided that its time to have some fun and having never owned a turbo petrol car before and wanting the hot hatch buzz it look like the Mazda can do just this. Now I firstly set a budget of £5000, this has now increased to £8000 after being on here and doing a bit of research, now thanks to this wonderful forum I have a new brain battler, Do I put a bit more in and get a mark 2 or stick with my original idea of the mk1. I have read the many threads and Mk1 Vs Mk2 and the mark 2 seems to be a more for your money car. I'm not very mechanically minded so I wouldn't be modding much, and I recon going from a 130 Passat to a 260 Mazda should keep me smiling for a few months. Mad thing is I haven't even seem a MPS in the flesh, this I hope to change soon. Any how a Few questions. What is the average cost of a service and how often do these need doing. What are the part like for price and availability Would you say there are a solid built car (I know its silly really asking on a MPSOC).  What it like here in the North West for the MPS scene. Average miles on a full tank, what Vpower PPL at the mo (Been a tractor driver for to long). Would driving for a 5 min in a morning whilst dropping kids at school and to work do damage and how would be the best way to avoid this. (Apart from walk). What comes standard alarm / immobiliser. Sorry for all the questions, thanks for your time.

Wow , lot of questions  to  So you've ruled the AWD 6 out then as you want a hatch ? Boooo If I was you, on the 5-8k budget, I'd get a mki and then do the VVT, rem, Cobb access port then leave it at that for 6-12 month. That's my opinion anyhow. You can get 400 miles from a tank, but you can also get <150, depends how hard you drive  Vpower or momentum would all is put in these cars. Service is every 6-9k, can be done for <£150 each time I you source the parts yourself, which we'll happily help with

mk1 ftw. as kenny has said do the VVT unless the previous owner has already done it. when checking a car let it idle for 10 mins or so to make sure u dont get a smokey one

How about waiting for a forum car to come up that's got basic mods already and a good maintenance history-and maybe VVT already done to save a few quid?

Is there somewhere to crack all these code words I see all the time vvt, rem, Cobb ect.  All though I did think I could get a cheaper mk1 and save the rest for any problems or maybe a few improvement mods.

Yeah I'm on the look out for one. Being a member of a few forums in the past I know forum owners cars usually have been well looked after. I should have the cash very soon and I have the itch, sick of my passhat and it's Many problems and water leaking in ways.

There is huge list of the acronyms, in the paid members section But.... vvt = variable valve timing , rem = rear engine mount, Cobb is a mapping device which is one of the best buys you can ever do I get my mountain bike in my 6, with camping equipment, drop the seats and its a winner.

Welcome ,quite old aint you should get a 6  What is the average cost of a service and how often do these need doing. Good oil ,filter and gearbox oil will set you back 130 ish when there aint a sale on .I have just done it for sub 100 .Then just get anyone to fit it for 2 hours labour tops What are the part like for price and availability Have no idea yet ,brakes are easy to source aftermarket Would you say there are a solid built car (I know its silly really asking on a MPSOC).
