Been a lurker for a couple of weeks reading all the excellent info you guys have written about over the last few years and finally picked my new car up today.

I've come from the ubiquitous orange focus ST that was mildly tuned to about 275bhp so I'm not a stranger to power through the front wheels ;)

On driving it home the 180 miles I think I've already become accustom to the power delivery and how it behaves so onwards and upwards! It's quite a different beast the the FST - almost like a cross between the FST and the Diesel Mondeo ST i had before. Powerful and nimble like the Focus, yet torquey and quiet on a run like the mondeo.

I specifically didn't want an Aero as I'm not a big fan of the silly little mirrors and larger rear spoiler (trying to be a bit more subtle compared to the orange Focus ST - hence the username) but might get some Eibachs at a later date.

I'll most likely be going down the Cobb route (had a tinker with various bluefin maps with the Focus so pretty similar) just to get rid of the low gear restrictions as much as anything else.

It's a '57 behind the private plate (not mine - bought with it already on) but I have my own private plate to go on soon. Only done 38k so still quite tight.

Anyway - less waffle so some pictures:

Welcome. Looks a nice motor.
You planning on a few mods or keeping it straight.

I might get a COBB or something similar to get the most out of the std car. Removing the restrictions in 1>3rd gears would be nice! Maybe a 2nd decat pipe too..

Yeah, I had one of those on the Focus and it looks surprisingly similar (as it should being nearly the same underneath) - It's probably the first mod I'll do to be honest as the gear change is awful compared to the Ford / Volvo gearbox.

I miss the noise from the 5 pot already :( Luckily my mate bought it off me so I can go and "have a go" when I like..lol
Anything I can do to get the MPS sounding nice? 2nd cat delete? Jetex? Inlet?

The REM is the same as the Focus - you should have had it off before you sold

hello and welcome, i was once also a ST3 owner and like you miss the sound of the 5 pot, and the gear changes were much better, but after a shortcut plate, countershift weight, anchors and a heavy knob, the gear changes are rather snug. plus a good REM

Just a silly noob question / confirmation from someone please?

Getting the Jetex cat back from BBR for instance - does it connect to the back of the 1st cat and thus not require a 2nd decat pipe?

As "3" in the image below so it retains the 1st cat "2" ?

Hi and welcome to :mpsoc:

As above however my understanding from this site is you don't need an exhaust unless you are going to run big power as the standard exhaust with just a 2nd cat removed makes plenty of noise whilst keeping the general noise levels stealthy. (Above 300bhp a DP and fuel pump internals are needed though)

If you are after mild tinkering then I recommend a good SRI and TIP + Recirc valve which is a cheap and very effective mod (for performance and sound)
And if you go cobb on top of that you can then get around 285-295 bhp and that should put your torque around 320-330 lbs ft, that's pretty much what i am running bar I went to a tuner for a RR map and it makes a world of difference to the way it drives.

Then go after your mate in the old focus just for giggles

Cheers for the info Mike!

I think first on the cards will be a Cobb (prob V3) to make the most of what the car is standard (I ran Bluefin on my Focus and it improved the drive substantially so should be similar on the MPS) and lessen / remove the pesky limiters in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and get me used to the MAF calibrations etc...

I would like to make it sound a bit nicer so wondered about the cat back but if the 2nd decat makes it sound a better (and won't be wasted if I get a cat back later) then that'll be good too.

After that, and if I still crave more oompf and sucking induction noise (oo-er; sounds a bit rude..) then I'll fit some kind of intake SRI /TIP. A REM should also be on the list too to help the woeful gear-change.
