New member here, signed up because i'm currently scouring the market for a MK1 3MPS.

I currently drive a modified Astra CDTi SRi 5 door with X-Pack, due to a change in job i'll be doing far less miles than I do at the moment so have decided to opt for something with a bit more power :D I did look at the 3 MPS before opting for my Astra a couple of years ago but couldn't jutify the extra fuel and road tax cost at the time.

Would appreciate any advice on things to look out for, particularly any known mechanical faults. I've only had my Astra two years, it's an 08 plate, and i've already had to replace the DMF, clutch, egr valve, air con condensor and now the gear box is on it's way out! It's only done 42k and whilst it's been tuned I hardly abuse it... all common problems apparently! Does the 3 MPS suffer from any 'common faults' I should be aware of...particularly expensive ones!

I've seen a few I like including this one... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201238485878522/sort/default/usedcars/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/quantity-of-doors/5/maximum-mileage/up_to_60000_miles/transmission/manual/fuel-type/petrol/model/3/make/mazda/onesearchad/used/radius/100/page/1/keywords/mps/postcode/wa120lf?logcode=p ...did this belong to anyone on here by any chance?

Hello and welcome, good luck in the search :)

The biggest thing to look out for is the smoking turbo / lots of info on the forum regarding this and more

Thanks everyone.

Yeah it does look well priced although I've got my heart set on a 2009 version, the very last MK1 before they introduced the MK2. I've seen a couple that I like but unfortunately I need to part ex two cars, my Astra and my fiancee's Micra Sport SR. One dealers valuation is well off for my Astra and I'm waiting for another dealer to get back to me with a price.

Can't really be bothered with the hassle of selling privately. Had the Micra up on Autotrader twice now and hardly any interest when it is priced very very fairly. Can only assume, despite them being as rare as rocking horse poo, people would prefer a 1.2 Sport over the 1.6 SR. Could probably sell my Astra much easier but if I can part-ex them both in on an MPS i'll be happy.

Will have a good read through the forum when I get chance.

The one you linked to is a "facelift" model that you talk about. It seems a great price to be fair, almost too good for a dealer!

Mine is also for sale, a little more money but you can have a look (links in my signature). I have a buyer who seems certain he wants it, but not able to come down untill the weekend. If you are interested, let me know.

Welcome!

Plenty of good info on here and if you have a spare bit of time then have a look at some older topics and it will pretty much tell you everything you need to know.

I thought that eco cars like the ones you are selling would be easy to sell these days. At least an MPS should be nice and cheap to compensate.

Also, if your adamant you'll be owning a mps then it's very much worth becoming a paid member in here, £20 for the year which gives you acces to more helpful topics, discount on insurance and parts via the traders on here, allows you to sell things on our for sale section etc etc and it also helps the mods with the upkeep of the site (paying the servers etc)
