Good evening comrades...

I'm new to the forum and so I guess I should introduce myself...

I'm Dolf, a nickname I acquired whilst working at a car plant 12 years ago...the other fellas thought I looked like Dolph Lundgren...all good and happy days I hear you say...the guy is not bad looking after all...but wait....the full spiel was Dolph Lundgren after a car crash and 6 months muscle wastage but hey...still not that bad...I guess...

The reason I joined up as it were was to talk to others enthused about their MPSs...cue the 'no shit'...'well you've come to the right place!'

I bought a first gen 3 (57 plate/Aero) around 8 months ago and I am very happy with it. I'm getting around 18-20 mpg but then that's as a direct result of why I'm happy with it...

The biggest smile and sense of thrill I'd ever had since sliding down the fireman's pole at primary school was achieved when I pressed my foot down on the turboboost (accelerator) after driving the car home following purchase for the first time!!..yes, I hadn't been able to do so on the test spin as the garage guy was sat next to me and the roads were all built up jobs or weren't long enough...so yes I bought it before realising the true extent of the 3's raw power...in fact I don't make any apologies for saying that it caught me out and I actually felt the steering wheel jettison off forwards without my hands still intact!!...think you could say it came as a bit of a shock...I knew it was going to be quick but I guess not that rapid...I had a Toyota (am I allowed to say that on here? tee hee) Celica 2.0 GT Liftback (1998) which had been slightly modded and was probably good for 0-60 in 7.5/8 secs due to it's age more than anything. I came into some money (legitimately I must stress) and so wanted something more reliable and practical...but deep down wanted something with a bit of steel...conscious that I was 33 and not ready for a pipe, zip up slippers and a Citroen Picasso. I wanted something quicker than my girlfriend's car too, a Renault Clio 172 Sport.

When over in the US of Stateside visiting my brother in March this year, I saw his new cars...a Mazdy CX-7 and a 3...it wasn't the MPS version but at the time it felt very nippy...Am I right in thinking our cousins across the pond have different spec Mazdy's than ours to accommodate for the relatively cheap powerful muscle cars they produce?...anyways his was fully kitted with the BOSE stereo and SATNAV etc etc but I did not see any MAZDASPEED 3 livery anywhere...2 litre more likely than not...I understand the CX-7 uses the same DISI engine as the 6mps and 3.

I started looking at the web sites for car garages back in the UK when I was still over there and found a half dozen 3's in the NW within practical driving distance...but then had two other cars in mind...a Nissan (sorry) 350z Skyline 2+2 in Blue, which had been imported and a BMW M3...predictable I know...on seeing the Nissan I was put off with the Japanese writing everywhere and although having 4 seats, the only practical use would have been to give Douglas Bader and another Douglas Bader a lift...so then on to the Mazdy and after sitting in it, loved the seat/seating position, headroom (I'm 6ft 3..not that I'm saying that's really tall and I am aware of taller specimens that make up the population but that was another reason why the Nissan was a no-go...and definitely not a TT...that hadn't even figured since I sat in one of them a few years back...that and the fact that I see about ten of them before I get out of my street AND I can't tell which way round they are...)

Nope, the Mazdy was great for cabin size and plenty of room for 3 pre-war Douglas Baders...and a decent sized boot to boot...and with the seats down I've been impressed at the amount of cargo I've been able to stow....the car has everything!!...oh and did I mention the 5 doors...?

I didn't even make it to see the BM as I was in love with the Mazdy and as other potential purchasers began circling and giving off signs of 'we're really interested in buying this car'...I decided (as the keys were held tightly in my hand) to seal the deal...well after my girlfriend had given it the thumbs up too...naturally...and anyway the BM was a few years older and to be honest I loved the fact that the Mazdy looked as much like a performance hot hatch as any 1.6 litre Japanese middle of the range family work horse does...except for the big aerofoil on the roof...but apart from that it's still amazingly low key...it's fantastic...

Well I seem to have rambled on a fair old bit..Bob Carolgees for that...but to sum up the reasons I love the car:

- It effortlessly allows you to glide passed other cars on the motorway
- Has bags of storage, cabin and boot space
- Plenty of Headroom
- 5 door practicality when giving the oldies a lift to Salsa classes
- Oh and did I mention out perform most other cars including sports cars especially 30mph onwards...loving it!

The only slight probs I have are the stiffness over uneven ground - I don't mind taking the jaults but just cringe at any potential damage done!!...oh and the fact that a few times recently the windows of my car have wound down of their own accord and I've found it a few hours later or the next morning...a tad worrying. I know that if you press the key fob button down its supposed to engage such an action but I know I'm not doing that...

I'm keen to investigate a remap as have heard that they've now been rolled out more so and can increase power to as much as 325bhp with 490NM torque. I spoke to a guy who deals with them and in his opinion the 3 (325bhp) was more exhilarating than an RS (booted up to 350bhp) he'd done and test drove both within half an hour of each other...be interested to know if anybody out there has had this done and any acceleration figures or comments?

If you're still reading this...then thanks

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi dolf and welcome

the window issue may resolve itself by simply disconnecting the battery , reconnecting and resetting the windows, its in the manual or let us know if you struggle.

It would be nice to see some pictures when you get a chance, what colour did you get?

That was the most entertaining introduction I have ever read on a forum!

Where abouts are you based?

Many thanks delt (I hope you don't mind me calling you that)

I'll have a gander at the manual this weekend and see what I can do...just conscious that with this inclement weather we're having recently, I'm going to wake up and find Frosty the snowman sat in the driver's seat with the rest of his family on board for good measure...

Colourwise, I have a silver metallic example...I read somewhere online that someone said it was anaemic looking...some people I tell you!!...anyways growing up and reading various car mags I saw my 'favourite car in the World EVER!!', a Lotus Esprit Turbo SE and I loved the colour scheme, Burgandy with grey skirts...how much to get that done on my Mazdy dya think?...forgot to mention I almost bought a deep blue aforementioned Lotus before the Mazdy and had even agreed a price (although not having seen it in the flesh let alone sit in it or dare I say drive it). It looked absolutely amazing and the fella had cared for it like his own wife had given birth to it...'how come you didn't get it?'..I hear you ask...I'm 6ft 3 is the biggest reason as I am reliably informed that both Willie Carson and Nick Nack, the wee henchman of Scaramanga have one and they both constantly complain about the headroom....I mean the supercar is lower in height than most people's coffee tables....oh well...cest la vie...

Oh and also the running costs and what could and would probably go wrong with a 20 year old car of its ilk...especially having been tweaked and was running 0-60 in less than 4 secs!!!!....yep, I thought it best to put my brain back in my head and show a more practical approach to my next car....

I will certainly get around to uploading some snaps of my car but at the moment it's not very silver at all..in fact it's dirtier than chubby brown sat in a wheelie bin of horse muck...but I will ensure to create a portfolio in the year Twenty-One -One.

My brother from New Jersey (New Joysey) is over in mid January and I'm as excited as a puppy with two penises to let him experience the MPS...think that will outdo any Christmas present I get this year...sorry love...and he gets too!!..sorry Nicole...

That's very kind of you to say so Jamie...didn't know what to say and then just ended up putting it out there..from the heart...naturally

Is this Stage 1 and 2 Turbopacs a different kettle of fish to remapping or is it that one and the same?...I understand you would require a more advanced exhaust system etc...I even heard that you can actually increase consumption...is that right?...I was thinking more zip would decrease it...what do I know, I only spray paint pubic hair on rubber dolls for a living...not really...

I'm based in the Oil Refinery capital of the North West of England, Ellesmere Port, just outside Chester..as you've more likely heard of that....

Have you had any work done to your Mazdy?

Thanks Sedge (I hope you don't mind me calling you that)

And thanks for helping to set this whole thing up...it's good to find people to talk to about the Mazdy and not have one of the following rebuttles:
' Are you going on about that blinkin car again..'
'I'm not that interested to be honest'
'You and that bloody car'
or the favourite one at the moment and a classic it has to be said...'.well I'll sleep better tonight knowing that..'

So thanks

By the way your car must look like and shift like a rocket with all those modifications...at first I thought I was reading the small print on the side of a packet of Nurofen...

That must have cost the preverbial arm and leg?...can you disclose approximate 0-62 mph times that you have by chance recorded on empty 70 mph stretches of road with a set of traffic lights at one end?

Have you seen the Zeperfs website?...if you have, what do you think to it?...it has the 3MPS (MK1) 0-100kmh time down as an average of 6.4 secs...based on all the top motor magazines data when they tested it... the quickest was 5.8 and the slowest 7.2...surely they must have clocked the 7.2 in the wet or were letting Maureen out of driving school have a go...I find the site fascinating and being able to compare pretty much any other car against the Mazdy just shows me how technologically magnificent this DISI engine is...

Thanks again

Dolf

Is it worth the site increasing server space now for dolf's replies

Don't think the 20 character minimum is going to be a problem!!!

I am looking forward to more posts dolf. .........................

Dolf as far as I know turbopacs stage 2 I think is for cas with exhaust and breathing mods to gain that extra 20bhp. I was booked in to Turbo pacs in November but was advised not to go there by various mazda3 forum members but that's something you would haveto read up on and decide for yourself.
I have a few mods on my car and is is XO Power tuning at the moment awaiting some carillo forged rods to arrive. So it should be ok for some nice power over the next few months.
With a map and basic mods mpg will no doubt decrease but it will be hardly noticeable, only when u fit bigger turbos injectors etc is when you notice a noticeable drop in mpg iirc.

(wish my English was as entertaining to read as yours )
