Hey folks, just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm James, all the way from down in NZ. I've recently purchased a 2007 Mazdaspeed Axela that was imported from Japan. Came across this place looking for more info on them, so I can learn about keeping it in great shape, and just maybe making it a little quicker (as if it wasn't quick enough already). I've come from a decade of dealing with Turbo'd Nissan Skylines. So a FWD car is rather alien to me. But lovin it so far

I'll put some of the mps up in the showroom section was a 1999 Skyline 25GT-T. 2.5L inline 6. turbo rwd 5 speed. Was a joy of a car to have. dynoed at 240hp at the wheels. Had it for 7 years. was president of a skyline club down here for a while. Even with skylines being cheap as chips here, still couldn't quite afford a GTR.

sdg_3mps wrote: Looks really why didn't you try and get more power out of it ? oh I'd thought about it. I'd done a bit with exhaust, intake and boost controller. But I had to support my partner for a while, so was on a reasonable budget. Also watched people around me work on their skylines and have lots of problems. Mine was ultra reliable and I preferred it that way, but still had plenty of power to have fun in. Now I had to look for something to cart band gear in (another expensive hobby). I'm very happy that I could find something with similar power, even being slightly quicker that the old car.

Was yours the Neo engine ? (As yours looks like an R34GT). That would explain why its not worth tuning I think you did the right thing in keeping it reliable from past experice they are quite highly strung compared to the older RB25DET so don't seem to have the same headroom for tinkering with

They don't like going above 12 psi without being remapped. The older ones could reach 14, then the issue became fuelpump/injectors or turbo. The major advantage with the neo's was a huge amount of extra torque. there was still plenty of headroom to get power, the engines are very strong as long as you do things correctly.

sdg_3mps wrote: Ok How for do you recon you'll go with the mazda ? Good question. I'd like to open up the exhaust and intake at least, throw in some handling items. But I'm probably going to leave it as is for a little while so I can get used to it, and learn the characteristics of this engine. Also keep the warranty intact for now, any mods make it void. The first 2 weeks I was driving around paranoid, just because the engine and gearbox sound very different to what I used to. These things are revvy little suckers, with urgent power delivery. The old skyline now seems lazy
