Hi all,

Well its finally caught up with me ! I've had a track car and trailer for the past 9 years and have finally succumb in the relentless battle against house purchases and other halves.

It all came to a head a month ago when after refurbing my garage I realised I was kidding myself if I was ever going to find time to spanner on the wagon, never mind get it on the track.

So with a guidance "rules" from the other half, to find a car with four doors and a boot I think I've stuck to the brief quite well !

Currently on the hunt for one of these rare wagons and have encountered nothing but dogs thus far unfortunatley. It will be a bit strange sitting in a refined vehicle with luxuries like sound deadening : eek2 : but its the way forward.

Hope to pick your brains as I move relentlessly towards ownership - heard a couple of things regarding diffs and mounts that I need to bottom out given the abuse she might get (the car not the other half).

: eek2 :

Cheers !

Dave

Hello and :welcome:
Thanks for the vid mate looks like me going to the shops (before dropping the rad  )

Guess you're looking at a 6 (what with requiring a boot) suprised you are finding dogs, MPS's are usually well maintained as they are only a max of 5 years old. Though some mods might be a bit dodgy.

Have fun looking, get pleanty of test drives and keep us up to date

Thus far I've seen one at a mazda main dealer which was 28k on the clock and that had lacquer peel on the rear bumper which gave away that it had been resprayed. The seat bolster was worn in the sale chaps opinion.... if you like to stanley knife leather I could agree with him.... :kick:

Do the front strut braces tend to rust easily ?

That combined with him rattle canning the calipers and rota's in silver (really badly) made me think there is alot being hidden here. Combined with the front looking like it had been on a thunder run through central baghdad I walked.

p.s. has anyone managed to keep their alloys pristine they look nightmarish to avoid rubbing :D

Next stop is a 16k miler down in stafford !

I had my alloys replaced under warranty. The new ones are 16 months old and still like new. The finish seems a whole lot better. All they need is a wash to get the brake dust off and they look like new. Stubborn marks come off with polish. I think too much hot brake dust has a lot to answer for.
I believe on ISF's it takes the paint off the sills and door lowers.
Yes you do need to retrain youself to avoid kerbs when parking like the plague.
Because they are relatively new you should be able to find one that has been looked after.
Best of luck.

Thanks for the lovely welcome all very nice board you have here ! hope to start contributing soon as well as asking.

I'm just hunting around as to the lineage of the 6's engine the SR20 on my old 14 was known for its reliability and build quality having been developed over many years. Having had a poke around notice a few issues on build quality people have mentioned.

I've had a read of the buyers FAQ and of course can check for the usual issues with turbo's (gaskets, play, oil seals), wheel bearings, leaks etc but just wondered if there is a definitive list of common faults as yet that everyone has settled on ?

Welcome to the forum!
While the 6 has a bigger boot than the 3, it is less practical overall as the seats don't fold down due to a steel bulkhead. A 3 may be the way to go if you need the versatility of a hatchback boot. Although the 3 is only front wheel drive compared to the 4wd of the 6...

Both 3MPS (MK1) and 6MPS are astonishing VFM at the moment. The economic climate is really hammering cars with "thirsty" engines and high VED. Good time to buy.
