Hi all,

What's with all the new owner's in scotland?! must be something in the water up here?

This is my first post but have been registered here for a good while and have been looking at 6's for even longer (just want to make sure I snag a good one!) and so wondered if anyone had an advice on a 07 grey for sale on Gumtree in Aberdeen? One owner, 78k, FMSH. Was 5500 but now reduced to 5k. Am thinking about heading through from Inverness to view? Thoughts?
http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-moto ... 1010859278

Thanks....and will surely be on here lots if I take the plunge!

Col

Hello and welcome,
I'm new to this forum myself and also looking but live further south (stoke on Trent).
The 6 your looking at seems clean and tidy from the description and I would say it looks good. I saw a couple of 6 mps on eBay recently up your way for similar money with slightly less mileage.
From what I understand the main thing on these to look out for is any rattles from the left side of the engine...and leave the car on idle from cold for 10 minutes to check the turbo seals.
Good luck and hopefully it's a good one for you.

It can be, it may of been one if the ones that was low tax but kept in storage as they couldn't sell it, but when they did it was then registered as that reg.

£250 for 6 months tax the ad says

Looks good - worth an inspection I'd say
If its good and you make the purchase I'll show you my one as I'm up by Inverness and will show you where all your money will be spent :D

Check for even tread across all tyres and ideally all the same brand of tyre with 215/45's fitted(some guys switch to 225/40's or 225/45's however). Usual check out for smokey turbo / VVT rattle especially on the first start of the day from cold. You will hear noises on right side of engine - this is the fuel pump and normal

Keep us updated

I would say the price is a little high for the mileage. If they are prepared to come down to 5k then that's more realistic in my view. You should be able to get a 50k miler for less than their asking price - although I appreciate that those 78k are likely to have seen less clutch wear issues etc if it has lived its life up there and been looked after. Check the underside for rust corrosion. The 6's tend to have it but I saw a few examples before I bought mine where the rust was way to extensive and that could be an issue if it's been used a lot on salted roads.

Well that's kind of why I was recommending particular attention to an inspection of the underside!
