Not yet an owner, but thinking about buying a 6 MPS, found one at a Mazda dealer, and looking for some re-assurance. I'm assuming this is a car that you can use every day, correct? No problems sitting in pretty heavy traffic on a daily commute? Some TLC and proper servicing means it'll last forever yes?

How careful do I need to be, buying from a Mazda dealer? Any bad experiences? Any good ones?

Looking forward to having a drive, hopefully next week.

As its from a mazda dealer it should be in good condition, but i would still check for the VVT rattle (rattling noise) from the left hand side of the engine). A good tip is to remove the oil filler cap and see if there is any movement in the chain, if there is probably get Mazda to replace if you're keen to buy. Also let the car idle for 10/15mins, if you see white smoke and if it stinks, the turbo seals are shot and new turbo, again get Mazda to replace before buying.

Other than that just the usual secoond hand car stuff to look out for. The guys on here with 6's will be of more help

Hello and :welcome:
Yeah Shaun is bang on with regards what to look out for.
The 6 i find is very comfy even in long standing traffic.
Do you know the reg as it could be a previous owner on here. Does it have FSH? Milage and price?

Black, 57k miles, £6k with 12 month warranty. In the workshop tomorrow for a new timing chain, hoping to get a drive on Wednesday. Reg is LG56 MYA. Anybody know it? I'm in Hampshire, car is in West Sussex.

12 month warranty sounds good with that, decent price too.
Does the warranty cover the turbo? One or two have had it due on them and it ain't cheap.

When they do the timing chain, is this including the VVT too or don't you know?

You should be fine with a 12 month Mazda warranty. Does it have full service history preferably with invoices? Check for rust where the rear bumper meets the rear wing. Some were treated, others weren`t. If the alloys are looking dodgy get them to replace/refurb. The clutch may be snatchy. Not a fault as such but can be difficult to live with. A cure is very expensive. 56 reg may be ok as it may have been built after July 2006 when a modified clutch was fitted.
You will love it as long as you are happy with 20mpg around town and £460 r/t.
