Hi all
Had my 3 MPS for almost three years. Fully enjoyed it up until sunday morning. Up in Aberdeen at the weekend and starting to drive back home when i noticed a change in the engine note on boost. Engine management light came on followed by plumes of smoke out the exhausts. : vmad :

Coasted along until it was safe to stop, with a fog trailing behind!! Grampians finest were good enough to stop with a fire extinguisher in case the engine went next!

Towed to Mazda in Kirkcaldy by the AA and they have confirmed the turbo has gone. 25k on the clock. Nae impressed. Not heard anything else from Mazda dealer as high value item and they need authorisation from Mazda. That was three days ago.

Lucky i have three months warranty left!

Anything else i should by asking them to change in case any other damage done else where. I think a few others have had this fault.

Sorry for the off topic post. Wasn't sure if i could post first time in mechanical section.

Scott

unlucky there mate. is your car standard?

nothing eles could be dmaged really it just sounds like the oils seals have failed. at least it still has warranty. its a strange one really. a couple have them fail early but most go on to high mileage.

Hi

Totally standard although hoping to upgrade after March when its out of warranty! No real warning before it happened.

Hope its a one off. Hoping to get Mazda to throw in the 27k service for free for the inconvenience! Needs some more oil anyway!

Out of interest, did your car get the 3,000 mile service when it was due?

Well good news today. After chasing Arnold Shark,Mazda have agreed to replace the turbo. I need to speak to Mazda customer services about a free service so thats tomorrows job!

Car is an ex demo and they didnt service the car until 3600 miles. That was going to my defence if they tried to be funny about not replacing the turbo. I knew about the 3000 mile service from lurking on the forum.

Always wait until the car warms up before any spirited driving :)

Usually let it cool down afterwards and aware that sitting idling does it no good.

other than this week love the car and the looks it gets. Still quite rare to see another one on the road and the performance certainly suprises a few people- civic type Rs are usually fair game to dispatch

If your car doesn`t smoke on extended idle, you won`t cause damage. It is something to watch out for. If you get smoke then there are possible remedies, some inexpensive.

I went forum hunting, and it turns out this is now my car. Interesting to know it's had a new Turbo, esp so early on.

Spoke to the previous owner, what a lovely guy. Told me all about his ownership, and what's been done.
