The mk2 bumb grows on you and the mazda smile is more of an evil grin on the mk2.
Will be hard work finding a mk2 for 10k or at least a straight one but it can be done.

I've bored people with the tax costs thing before however a 2008 - 2009 mk1 will save you more cash in the purchase price than buying a more expensive mk2 of pretty much the same age to save a couple of hundred a year on tax.. Mileage wise you may even get better on a mk1.

When you think about it over the long term, I'd agree with you. However I'd find it 10x easier to have £280 available when tax comes rearing it's head than £480.

I love the Smile! haha :D Think it grew on the Mrs after looking at it more, too.

I'll keep struggling for a while to get one for around my budget, we were also considering the 2.2 180PS lump. Doesn't look quite as pretty, but still good enough! With the packages that BBR are bringing to the market too, they're not to be sniffed at.. :D

Take a look at pcp deals.
Might work for you ?

I pay x amount over 36 months and I owe 4k at the end.

Three options. Walk away. Trade in. Buy for 4k.

Basically all you do is put 4k away to pay in three years which you refinance.
Will work on 2010/2011 onwards.
Can put you in a 13k car for 9k.
Needs a lot of looking in to and you should take financial advice before you look at this option as I'm no advisor but I know a few did this and it works.
Just an option good luck.

Not going near any finance at all, otherwise i'd have easily forked out the extra 2-4k for a low mileage example.

The whole point of me having this 10k in cash to to stay away from owing any money :D

I have a great history, paid back every loan/finance etc without any issue, ever. But, it goes on the household you're afilliated with and not just you! Silly Creditscores...

Hi mate and welcome  , just thought id put this to you, i was looking at mk2's around the 10-11k mark (i was also after the cheaper tax) and tbh for that price your going to struggle to find a decent 1 IMO,
I ended up buying an immaculate mk1 facelift with 14.5k, fsh for 8.4k, thats around a 2k saving for not much of a difference in cars, it would take you 10 years to get that back if you do choose a mk2 just for the tax, are you goin to be keeping it that long to be able to justify the extra spend?? At the end of the day its your choice of course and good luck with your search what ever you choose to do  :)

Hehe, I hear what you guys are saying, but I just love the looks of the MKII too much :P

I've got £11k now, so will make it a BIT easier, but not by much.. hah.

Now that I actually have the Money, I'm hounding dealers.. hehe

Hehe

I pick it up on Friday. It was a 180 Mile round trip to go see it, so had to schedule in a time to collect when I could get time off work AND coax the parents in to taking me to collect it. If I hadn't gone to collect it Friday coming, I'd need to go collect it next Wednesday. I'm Impatient, so sue me..

It's Black, on a 59 Plate with 26k Miles.

It's having it's MOT done, 6 Months Tax slapped on and a Service before it gets released to me, hopefully two new tyres on the back too as they're nearing limit.. but we'll see.

I'm sure once I put some pictures up, I'll get the "Hey! That was my car, shouldn't have bought that the Turbo is on it's way out!" or some lark.

Quite Giddy right now..

Good stuff mate.
Nah don't worry turbo be fine and believe me you would see the smoke lol
The only time you have turbo issues is if you fit a downpipe but I'm sure you will read up on all this if you decide to add a few mods.
Sounds like your happy so enjoy it . its a hell of a car
