Hey everyone. ive come here for advice.

At the moment i drive a 8L audi S3, running at about 260 bhp. i love S3 to bits, best car ive ever owned but the time has come where the Mrs has asked me to get a 4 door. Ive been looking around and narrowed my choices and the Mazda 3 MPS is one of my favs.

So what are they like to drive? im not bothered if its faster or slower than the S3 aslong as its around the same. Whats fuel econemy like? with the S3 on a normal run to work i get 25 mpg. long runs i can push 35.

if i go to see any is there anything i need to look out for, common faults etc? any other info you can add or help me out with would be great. Im probably looking at the MK1's i liek the styleing better.

Probably wont be much in it performance wise, mpg will probably be very close to what your getting.
Engine is quite noisy as standard so don't be put off if it makes a couple of clicks or rattles under the bonnet but leave on idle for about 10-15 mins and see if any smelly smoke comes out the exhaust. Other than that enjoy.

thanks for the replys. im use to a noisy engine. my s3 has done 170k miles so theres one or two rattles. :)

notice a few people have had remaps after adding a few parts, do these cars handle them well? no need for upgraded rods etc? and do they suffer from heat soak having a TMIC? and is there need to fit a front instead?

:welcome: to the forum.

Yes the cars respond well to some add ons and tuning, BUT be very careful who you use and stick to recommendations on here (or at least ask first if you have someone in mind).

TMIC and Rods are fine depending on what sort of power hikes you are considering, have a look around there is some really useful stuff on here

Welcome. You will save money by going for a mk1 but the road tax is about £460 compared with about £260 on the mk2.

these cars can run decent amount of power on stock rods as long it has a good tune. they can run 290-300 without a map and just a few bolt ons with a map 320-340 easy.

One thing it won't have is a nice quiet interior, what I mean is they are full of bumps and squeaks but a nice intake or exhaust solves this.
