Home Insurance for club members

Though we're well known as a provider of car insurance to car club/forum members and that's the reason we're working with this forum, Chris Knott does have good rates for Home Insurance too.

You'll receive the usual Chris Knott benefits, such as personal service, independent expert advice, ongoing support, ease of access, etc for your home insurance when you ask us to quote.

We're currently signing up 40% of Home Insurance quotes, so it really is worth giving us a call for a quote on your buildings and/or contents cover when it falls due. Call our Home Insurance team on 0800 917 2274 (or 01424 200477) and find out how much you could save by switching to Chris Knott.

Our Home Insurance Manager gets particularly excited when he hears that a customer has their cover with their bank/building society as he knows he can normally save them quite a bit more money.

There are extra discounts for existing clients too - £20 OFF when you switch to Chris Knott Home Insurance if you have one car insured with us, £50 OFF if you have more than one car with us.

So make sure you call us for a quote when the time comes and remember - the Chris Knott Club scheme is not just for cars!

"I would recommend you speak to Chris Knott for other types of insurance too. I recently moved my House Insurance and saved over £900 :) - with my car insurance that's £1400 I've saved this year by moving over." NeRo, zroadster.org

Can you provide a quote for a house that has suffered from subsidence in the past?

All properly repaired.

It depends on the rest of the risk and the circumstances surrounding the subsidence. It'll be a black mark against you for a while with most insurers.

By all means give us a call and we can talk specifics. We'll do all we can to help.

We normally do ask if there are any other policies coming up soon that we can quote for :)

Within 30 days of renewal is best :)

How long is a while? 5 years or 50 years?

Also, the 30 day rule is a major problem. Most people wont provide a quote before 30 days of renewal. However, most people wont quote until after they have reviewed the documentation, or in many cases asked an engineer to look at it. This takes more than 30 days to arrange.

The daft thing is, now it has been properly repaired, it is far safer and less likely to happen again than before, but the assured is heavily penalised for a having a lower risk.

This is why most people stick with the insurer they were with when they had the claim unfortunately.

With hindsite, I wish I had.

The original insurer were charging approximately 3 times the "non subsidence" rate.

I had a quote from someone else, for about 2/3 what I was paying (so double what I consider a normal rate). However, when all the small print arrived (about a month after the policy started), I read it to discover they had made some mistakes. When I pointed these out, it then doubled the premium. By this time, I was locked in and the original insurer didnt want me back.

I have now changed again and got it back to about what I was paying before, but I wish I had never changed as I liked the original company.

What really gets me is the amount of hassle and difficulty it is even to get a quote, and yet the risk is lower, so the underwriters are making a killing. I dont mind them making a profit, or even a higher profit if they perseve the risk as being higher, but most, even the so called "specialist" companies dont want to know.

You're right Big Dunc. It's almost as if they want to lock you in for life so you'll pay them back for more of the loss. I suppose there's a chance that whatever caused the subsidence will re-occur and cause more damage but in that case you'd think they'd be glad if you weren't still on their books.

The house is now on a 1 mtr thick steel reinforced concrete slab which is tied into 18 piles, each one of which goes 8 mtrs deep.

I very much doubt its going to move again.

I'll PM you our Home Insurance Manager's direct number. We may be able to help on this even outside the 30 days. When was the last engineer's report compiled?
