I've not posted about the happenings of my 6 MPS yet as I was feeling a bit pissed off last week to say the least. After buying my 6 at the start of Feb I had started down the road of modding. Had a local exhaust garage fit my decat downpipe, and it was when they were wrapping things up by checking for leaks on the ramp at Idle only when the fate of my Mazda ownership was decided! As it turns out, my VVT actuator gave up the ghost, and the old weak link gave way.........Conrod through the bottom of the block!!! To say I'm totally hacked off with the MPS is an understatement. I'd done evrything in the proper controlled manner throughout the modding process. Using my laptop with Versatune to continually monitor & log all parameters, and only after the downpipe was to be fitted would I set about a good MAF Calibration for the new setup and subsequent WOT Logging under the guidance of Alex at Stratified. By all accounts the map that was on the car was absolutely spot-on (Varified by independant mapper). I had heard rumours of this having happened to other owners, but wether it was my ignorance or not, just assumed that it had been down to the abuse of these preceding owners and that so long as I did everything correctly I'd be fine! Anyhow, the car is now no more, and I'm out of pocket by a serious amount. I've sold off just about all of my freshly fitted Gucci aftermarket parts (Just some driveshafts, spare alloy wheel, Toyo tyre, oil catch can, performance panel filter & mudflaps left to sell). This is probably one of the friendliest car owner forums that I've had the pleasure to have been involved with, and would like to take this opportunity to wish all the members (and prospective members) all the best with their cars. I'll pop back from time to time, but forgive me if I appear somewhat cynical about the marque, but I had high hopes for the 6 MPS to have been a serious & grown-up alternative to previous Scoobie ownership. Guess I'll just have to recover financially, then get myself a new trackday toy to tinker about with. Cheers, Phil.

And you'd only just found your sibbling 6MPS as well!! Managed to get something for the car as it was, and scraped together a few quid to get myself some wheels to keep me going. Need to save pennies for a good while now to get back to where I was, but this Altea diesel gets me around 60mpg average to work and back, so a good starting point I suppose? Oh well, back to seatcupra.net it is then .

Variable Valve Timing actuator. Advances/retards the timing of the intake valves by adjusting the relationship between the camshaft chain and intake camshaft. Engine oil pressure is usually applied to an actuator to adjust the camshaft position.
I'm not 100% up to speed on the operation on this specific powerplant, but maybe MazdaTech would be able to explain the operation, and possible terminal cause of this failure?

Gavin wrote: Sorry to hear this, i did wonder what must of happend to be selling all your toys all of a sudden. was it that beyond repair? Afraid so Gavin. Conrod literally exploded out the bottom of the block & sump. Everything, head included would have been completely farked!! Otherwise I may have been persuaded to take the opportunity to get a forged/stroked rebuild on the go . But, alas the sums just didn't add up when you're talking about a complete engine . I'll dig out a pic of the damage from my phone when I get the chance. Hopefully we can all learn from this, whether it be a preventative component replacement or similar. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of this particular problem will be along to keep us all informed?????

I could have accepted it a bit more if i had done it under load, but at Idle was hard to comprehend. Still is tbh!! P.S. You want me to package the STi splitter up for sending to you?
