Hi guys, Been looking to buy a mk1 MPS 3 for a while now, finally one popped up locally, 72k miles on the clock and bodywork looks immaculate. Thinking of viewing it at the weekend however I was just wondering how reliable they are apart from the VVT/Timing chain issue ive read about?

My car has done about 120k and the only things that have broke are the two rear springs & shocks, had to replace the front wheel bearing and both the rear calipers. Tyres, pad and discs are consumables. And I believe its still the original exhaust.

I am getting a rattle from the engine belt side, so its prob a bearing in the alternator, ac unit, power steering pump, or tension pulley.

The turbo is probably the other issue to watch out for. Look out for smoke on idle after 15 mins or less, although it can go at any time like any other turbo car.

Apart from that, I think they are very reliable for such a high performance car. Watch out for anyone other issues common to all used cars.
