Hi all,
I've admired the 6 MPS for a few years and now I finally own one! I like their understated style and the fact hardly anyone knows what it is - or what it's capable of!
Mine is a 56plate in grey. It has done 129,500 miles, is sporting Rx8 alloys brush painted black (need to either repaint these or refurbish the originals) and an HKS rear exhaust system.
The gearbox is a little stiff especially when cold so I'm going to change the oil and lubricate the gear linkages on Saturday.
Tom.

Here is a picture of it. Does anyone recognise it? Image

Welcome. Where are you based and where did you get the 6?

The correct lubricants make a big difference to these cars. A lot of us change the engine oil every 5k and use a fully synth 5/40.

I'm based in Kent and bought the 6 locally.
I've already got the oils:
Gulf Formula FS 5w30 fully synthetic
Gulf Syngear 75w90 fully synthetic

... plus a weird looking oil filter! I'm used to the spin-on type!

Not the oils you should be using really, ignore what the manual recommends or sites like euro car parts say when you put the reg in.

What's the reason behind ignoring the manual / recommended grade of oil?

On the subject of oil, I get a burning oil smell in the cabin after a long drive. What's the most common cause of this?

I'm planning to change the oil today so please let me know ASAP if I need to swap the grade of oil I've bought for something else.

I've just taken the under tray off and the gearbox is covered in oil. It appears to be coming from the top.
Loads of oil around the gear linkage where it enters the gearbox. Gear linkage oil seal..? How difficult is it to change?

I've never needed to change that seal (though I've changed the whole linkage, that was a bastard) So can't advise.
Engine oil, go for 5w40. Shell helix ultra is the fav here
